Driver Tracking Survey Findings 2 30th June 2020 Category: Uncategorized In a recent survey, we asked 30 companies throughout the UK for their opinions on vehicle tracking systems and the continued development of related technology. In our last post (you can read it here) we touched upon attitudes towards driver tracking equipment and the moral question of such systems encroaching on the rights of drivers. This post will look to expand upon this conflict from different perspectives. From our results, 60% of participants either agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement: ‘advanced driver monitoring software can provide valuable business benefits’. Of the other 40%, only 11% said they would strongly disagree, showing the majority can appreciate the value that driver tracking can have. However, the reactions to the next statement ‘Driver monitoring technology has gone too far and has become invasive and unfair on the driver’, were much more split. 51% of people agreed and 49% disagreed. Such a divide would lead us to believe that there are two groups of a similar size that are in disagreement: drivers vs management. But of those who provided answers, less than 25% came from drivers, with the majority who participated in the survey being in management positions. This shows a split in attitudes divided by something other than one’s role within the company. It could be down to different belief systems and moral standpoints or due to personal past experiences with tracking systems, good or bad . So what can we take from this? Well, advanced driver tracking systems will not be appropriate for every business. If you are thinking of introducing some new technology, it is important to be very open with your drivers so they fully understand why it is being introduced and how it benefits them. It is essential to include your team in the decision making process and find a system which everyone feels comfortable with as this will face the least resistance. Where do you think the line should be drawn with driver tracking systems? How have you managed to make them work for you?
