Tracking profitability on jobs is really important, it can show you which types of work or which customer accounts are making the most money and alert you to areas of the business that are not performing as well.

There are a couple of ways TeamPoint helps with this.

Job Lists

All lists of jobs include costing information for all of the jobs on the list. Below we see one row from a job list, showing job costs (usually internal labour), purchasing (parts and sub-contract labour), gross profit and margin. You get this for every job on every list within TeamPoint, so you can always see how much a job is making

Job Costing Report

The job costing report gives similar information but for groups of jobs. You can group by customer, division or job type.

You can find the Job Costing report on the main menu under Finance->Job Costing. The report will let you select a date range, choose how to group jobs and how to order the results. You can order the report by Margin, Profit, Revenue or Job Count.

Below we can see a report for 1 month grouped by job type :

Here we can see the same report grouped by customer and ordered by number of jobs. We can see that the gross margin varies quite a lot from customer to customer and is not directly related to revenue or number of jobs.

We could also run this report for different date ranges, groups and ordering.

Each row on the report is clickable to reveal the individual jobs that make up the totals. We might see a row in the summary that has a low margin and choose to click through and see more detail.

Clicking on Kelly Ltd, we can see the 10 jobs that were shown on the summary report. There is one job with negative margin that has been highlighted in red. This job and the one above with 0 margin are the reason this customer shows with in overall low margin. Their other jobs seem to be profitable.

From here we can print or export the list of jobs or click back to our summary report.

The profitability summary and job costing report will help you find which jobs are most profitable and also the jobs that have not gone so well.
